Havelock, NC

Havelock, (21 miles from Beaufort,NC) and about 15 minutes west of Morehead City on U.S. 70, is best known as the home of the world’s largest Marine Corps Air Station, (MCAS) Cherry Point. MCAS Cherry Point is one of North Carolina’s principal industries and the largest employer of the populations of both Craven and Carteret Counties. The combined populations of Cherry Point and Havelock comprise the largest town in Craven County. Many families discover Havelock while serving in the military and decide to make it their home. If you take the time to explore the town by turning off U.S. 70, you’ll soon see why.

Havelock is surrounded by the Croatan National Forest, 157,000 acres of forests, lakes and meandering streams bordered by the broad Neuse River. The national forest and the Neuse River offer numerous year ’round recreational activities including camping, hiking, hunting, boating and fishing.

Many golfers who enjoy the Crystal Coast area for “shoulder season” golfing during our lengthy spring and fall months choose to stay in Havelock while playing the numerous courses in the area. From New Bern to Cape Carteret, all courses are nearly the same short distance from Havelock where accommodations are plentiful, prices are inviting and golfing packages are offered.

Havelock is an easy location from which to launch interesting day trips to the Crystal Coast and Swansboro, New Bern or by ferry to Oriental. It’s also an easy destination to explore while shopping, dining or enjoying the community festivals. Havelock hosts the North Carolina Chili Festival in October and the Christmas Fair in November. In spring, the bi-annual Air Show featuring the jet antics of the Blue Angels returns to MCAS Cherry Point. Tours of MCAS Cherry Point are offered every Thursday during June, July & Aug., and the first and third Thursday of each month Sept.-May.
